Students in St. Kate's MLIS program has worked with the Minnesota Indian Women's Resource Center (MIWRC)'s Learning Center for the last year and hope to continue our partnership to build MIWRC's capacity to serve its patrons and preserve local American Indian culture.
Last year, LIS7963 students, Candace LaPlante and Lindsay Peifer, worked in MIWRC's Learning Center and created a comprehensive list of potential projects, which I have made available on the wiki. This fall, our LIS7480-Collection Development and Management class did an evaluation of the current collection and gave recommendations to the center on how to further the develop the collection. During the J-Term, LIS students Linda Nguyen and myself worked on a mock grant proposal for our Grants and Libraries class, which we will give to the center to aid them in finding alternative sources of funding.
MIWRC has a wide variety of projects available and a great need for volunteers. You can contact either Jo Lightfeather, Director of the Learning Center jlightfeather@miwrc.org or Beth Shaftner, Programs Coordinator beth@miwrc.org for more information.
